Dating the status dot
Saying an open-source project is dormant is a core value of this site. Until now that word had nothing behind it, and two of the nine claims turned out to be wrong.
Every engine project carries a status — active, dormant or dead — and a small coloured dot to match. It is one of the site's more useful features and it was, until now, entirely unsupported: nine assertions with no evidence attached to any of them.
A script now reads each project's most recent commit from the API and writes the short sha and date into the data, along with the date the lookup happened. The date going stale is the point: a reader can see how old the answer is instead of trusting a word typed once.
The script deliberately does not write status. A project can be finished rather than abandoned, and deriving that word from a date would turn a considered call into a heuristic. Instead it prints the rows where the two disagree and leaves the decision to a person. Three disagreed, and two were wrong on the page: eZeus was published as dormant while having committed three weeks earlier, and Ozymandias carried the line "Dormant since ~Sept 2022" next to a commit from February 2026.
